Manager, Medical Coding Operations - Remote

JOB SUMMARY:

The Medical Coding Operations Manager is responsible for day-to-day operations, productivity, quality, education, employee management and development within a specific consultant or client group. The position is involved in candidate hiring, employee production workflow management and disciplinary issues. The Medical Coding Operations Manager builds solid, profitable relationships with clients through the delivery of exceptional customer service characterized by mutual respect, understanding, and trust.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

Consultant Management

    • Ensures direct reports maintain established customer service standards by overseeing and monitoring client facility operations.  
    • Works with leadership to maintain benchmark quality standards within the assigned specific client group. Monitors quality provides constructive feedback to employees regarding quality issues as needed and assists Leadership with developing performance improvement plans for underperforming employees to achieve company quality standards.  
    • Collaborates with leadership to maintain productivity benchmarks of consultants. Assists in the development of site-specific baseline productivity standards utilizing reports to manage coder productivity. Provide feedback and mentoring as needed to achieve productivity standards.  
    • Assists leadership with implementation, compliance, tracking, and completion of coding education training to internal coding and auditing staff. Keeps Leadership informed if any consultant is not complying or underperforming during established training milestones.  
    • Attends meetings with Senior Leadership as requested.  
    • Performs scheduled billable activities as appropriate.  

 

Client Management

    • Responsible for coding services customers and assists in operations of these engagements.  
    • Maintains client retention and satisfaction. Responsive to client needs, anticipates problems and takes action for resolution before they develop into significant customer issues/dissatisfaction as pertains to coding quality. Keeps Leadership informed of customer  
    • Responds to customer concerns in a timely and professional  
    • Escalates customer issues/concerns/problems in a pro-active and timely manner to Leadership to resolve client  
    • Informs Leadership of new business opportunities with existing customers and provides input that will assist sales and others as appropriate to pursue and close such  
    • Assist with coordination of new account start up in conjunction with Leadership. 

Client Required Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • RHIA or RHIT required, or Bachelor’s degree in related area required.  
  • Approved AHIMA or AAPC coding credential required.  
  • Minimum combined 7 years experience in medical coding/auditing, with at least 3 years in a management role. 
  • Experience with production coding, including tracking productivity metrics, identifying coding trends, and supporting coder education through targeted resources, preferred 
  • Experience with multiple health facilities, provider practices, and vendor-related organizations strongly preferred 
  • Experience with multiple electronic health record and billing systems required.  
  • Extremely skilled with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel). Ability to build and manage spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations on a consistent basis.   
  • Ability to track and trend data and perform data analysis.  
  • Must communicate effectively at all levels inside and outside of the organization and express ideas and information clearly and concisely, in both verbal and written form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Sitting, talking, hearing and near vision are required over 90% of the time. Feeling is required over 90% of the time and reaching is required about 50% of the time. Ability to travel to field sites may be required up to 15% of the time.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Over 90% of the time is spent indoors, with protection from weather conditions. Exposure to noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable is present in only unusual situations.
