Manager, Interim Coding Services - Remote

Job Summary:

 

The Manager, Interim Coding Services is a client-facing position that is responsible for day-to-day operations of a client coding department. This position is involved in coder education, daily oversight of work queues, resolution of outstanding accounts, review of pre-bill accounts for accuracy, denial review and appeal, maintenance and update of coding guidelines, and reporting as appropriate for the client engagement. The Manager, Interim Coding Services works with the Client in a temporary management capacity, either on-site or remotely, to ensure the facility’s coding department functions normally while the position is vacant.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Validation of pre-bill accounts to ensure accurate code assignment
  • Review and respond to claim denial letters from RAC and other payers
  • Responsible for identification of quality improvement action plans for coding consultants
  • Works with other team members to provide coding consultants educational sessions in varying formats as needed in order to ensure accuracy and consistency
  • Oversight and management of coding work queues as appropriate to client
  • Provides consistent guidance for coding team with regards to assignment of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and/or HCPCS as applicable for the client need
  • Works with department Director to monitor and meet DNFB/DNFC goals
  • Assists with resolution of clinical documentation improvement (CDI) discrepancies as appropriate
  • Maintains and updates facility coding guidelines, forms utilized for coding, and standard operating procedures (SOP) for the department
  • Responsible for performing new hire training for coding consultants as appropriate
  • Maintains reports at the direction of management
  • Provides assistance to other departmental staff as applicable
  • Advises department Director with strategic guidance as requested
  • Demonstrates knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations as evidenced by appropriate handling of patient information
  • Promotes confidentiality and uses discretion when handling patient information
  • Provides production coding support as needed
  • Performs other duties as needed with the project
  • Maintains required productivity and quality requirements
  • Maintains coding credential requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidate must possess an approved AHIMA coding credential
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree from an AHIMA certified HIM Program or Nursing Program strongly preferred
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in supervisory role
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in coding, auditing, and/or project management required
  • Must be local to PA and/or willing to travel on-site weekly
  • Experience with multiple electronic medical record and billing systems required
  • Extremely skilled with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills required
  • Excellent client and customer relations skills required
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Must communicate effectively at all levels inside and outside of the organization and express ideas and information clearly and concisely, in both verbal and written form

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Sitting, talking, hearing and near vision are required over 90% of the time, while walking is required frequently throughout the day. Standing is required over 10% of the time. Feeling is required 90% of the time and reaching is required about 50% of the time. Bending, twisting and climbing are required, as in far vision, but only for 10% or less of the time. Low levels of lifting (10 pounds of less) is required about 25% of the time, while medium levels (20 to 40 pounds) of lifting and carrying are required less than 5% of the time. Ability to travel to field sites may be required up to 15% of the time.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Over 90% of the time is spent indoors, with protection from weather conditions. Exposure to noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable is present in only unusual situations.
